The City Lights Run: 5,000 Runners Set to Light Up Ho Chi Minh City This Week

The third edition of the Ho Chi Minh City Night Run Eximbank is set to be the biggest yet, with a significant increase in participant numbers from the previous two events.

This popular running event is organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Athletics Federation, the municipal Labor Culture Palace, and Unique Events & Media, under the guidance of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports.

The race, which offers distances of five, 10, and 21 kilometers, commemorates the 134th birthday of late President Ho Chi Minh and encourages residents to embrace a healthier, more active lifestyle.

It also showcases the vibrant and energetic side of Ho Chi Minh City after dark, providing a unique experience for both tourists and foreigners living in the city.

Well-known Vietnamese athletes, including Hoang Nguyen Thanh, Pham Tien San, and Khuat Phuong Anh, are among those signed up to participate.

Nguyen Khoa Vinh, a member of the organizing board, highlighted the range of prizes on offer for individuals, couples, and teams across different age groups, designed to encourage wider participation in the race and the running community as a whole.

In addition to the run itself, the event features a warm-up ‘Shake Out Run’, thought-provoking dialogues centered around the themes of ‘Together We Run’ and ‘Together We Share’, and a singing program titled ‘Runner’s Show’. This diverse range of activities provides opportunities for runners to connect and share their knowledge and experiences.

The Ho Chi Minh City Night Run Eximbank is more than just a sporting event; it’s a cultural celebration. One of the highlights is ‘Saigon Corner’, a dedicated area showcasing delicious Ho Chi Minh City snacks.

Mai Ba Hung, former deputy director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, emphasized that this competition truly represents the spirit of Ho Chi Minh City—a dynamic and vibrant city that never sleeps.
