VNAT suggests streamlining visa procedures for Vietnamese visitors from RoK

Last year, approximately 3.6 million Koreans traveled to Vietnam, while 400,000 Vietnamese tourists visited the Republic of Korea.

According to Khanh, the total number of visits between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea reached 4 million last year, representing 83% recovery compared to the pre-pandemic level.

He suggested that the embassy and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) advise the Korean government to provide favorable conditions and simplify visa procedures for Vietnamese tourists.

Khanh mentioned that VNAT will cooperate with KTO in promoting tourism in Vietnam to the Republic of Korea this year, and proposed that Korean organizations invite Korean companies to participate in such activities.

He also recommended that KTO consider establishing a joint tourism cooperation committee, which would hold annual meetings in both countries.

Park emphasized that Vietnam is a leading tourist destination globally and that cooperation in this field between the two countries has grown stronger in recent years.

Last year, approximately 3.6 million Koreans traveled to Vietnam, while 400,000 Vietnamese tourists visited the Republic of Korea.

The diplomat mentioned that Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Da Lat, and Phu Quoc are among the popular destinations for Koreans, and charter flights have been initiated to these places.

The Vietnam-Republic of Korea bilateral agreement on recognizing the International Driving Permit (IDP), signed by both sides during President Yoon Suk Yeol’s visit to Vietnam in June 2023, became effective in July of the same year. The agreement is considered a facilitator for tourism cooperation.

Park also suggested that VNAT work towards attracting more Koreans to visit the Southeast Asian nation./.

Under the aforementioned agreement, citizens of the Republic of Korea with a valid driver’s license will soon be eligible to drive in Vietnam with an international driving permit.

The Korean National Police Agency expects approximately 4.3 million Korean citizens to take advantage of the international driving permit to drive in the Southeast Asian country. Vietnamese tourists are already able to drive in the Republic of Korea with an international driving permit.

Korean citizens with a driver’s license can apply for an international driving permit. Once issued at police stations, license examination offices, Incheon Airport, or Gimhae Airport, the permit will be valid for a year.

Previously, the Republic of Korea Government granted permission for holders of international driving permits issued by Vietnam to drive in the Republic of Korea under Article 96 of the country’s Road Traffic Law.
