The Malaysian team took the lead just eight minutes later. A delicate header from Paulo Josue beat the Hanoi goalkeeper, Nguyen Filip, putting the score at 2-1.
After halftime, coach Alexandre Polking made strategic adjustments to the lineup, which paid dividends. Cong An Hanoi came out with renewed energy and improved performance in the second half.
Their efforts were rewarded in the 67th minute when Bui Hoang Viet Anh scored from a corner kick, equalizing the match at 2-2.
As the game intensified, Kuala Lumpur adopted an aggressive approach, which backfired. Two of their players, Kamal Azizi and Paulo Josue, received red cards, reducing their team to nine men.
With a numerical advantage, Cong An Hanoi seized the initiative. They relentlessly pressed forward and found the winning goal in the first minute of added time. Le Van Do scored after a sustained attack, securing a 3-2 victory for his team.
This triumph maintained Cong An Hanoi’s top position in Group B with 12 points. With only four rounds of the group stage completed, they have already secured a spot in the semifinals. Buriram United from Thailand trails in second place with seven points.
Kuala Lumpur and Indonesia’s Borneo FC are tied on six points, with the Malaysian side ahead on goal difference. Singapore’s Lion City Sailors FC occupies fifth place with four points, while the Philippines’ Kaya FC is yet to get off the mark.
